It is one of those rare 1er Crus that, geographically, is literally surrounded by Grand Cru vineyards. In this case, it is encircled by Latricieres Chambertin, Charmes Chambertin and Clos de la Roche. The Lignier parcel is 0.14 hectare and the vines therein are 40 years old (as of 2012). Obviously, production is exceedingly limited.
Here there is very good freshness to the cool and airy nose of essence of plum, earth, spice and a background application of wood. The lilting and lacy middle weight flavors possess a subtle underlying tension while the ever-so-slightly warm finish is shaped by very fine-grained tannins.
