Deep coloured with aromas of dark berries, dark plums, black cherry and other black, rather than red, fruit notes. Very clean and vibrant wine offering considerable immediate appeal. Finishes with building tannin and good length. Emidio Pepe is one of Abruzzo’s reference-point producers. These traditionally made wines can show some rough edges when they are young, but they rarely disappoint when given an opportunity to mature in the cellar; these reds improve spectacularly with bottle age, showing their best at 8 to 10 years from the vintage.
Totally captivates with an exotic mix of musky red currants, allspice, dusty rose and a touch of forest floor. It's soft and enveloping on the palate without a hard edge in sight, casting citrus-tinged berries across a core of brisk acids. Savory herbal tones come forward toward the close. This finishes structured and long yet the tannins are sweet.
