Blended with 55% Grenache Noir, 35% Syrah, 5% Marselan, and 5% Carignan, this wine boasts a rich and enticing dark purple-red color that invites with a myriad of aromas.
On the nose, this rouge reveals a complex bouquet of dark berries, bigarreau cherries, dried tomato, blackcurrant, and a hint of pepper. The grapes used to make this wine were sourced from a natural reserve under the UNESCO classification: a Biosphere Reserve. Sheltered from the Mistral winds between two mountain ranges, Mont Ventoux and the Dentelles de Montmirail, the 15-year-old vines are situated 492 feet above sea level, where they are rooted in clay-limestone soils. Organic and natural treatments are utilized on the manually worked vineyards to avoid diseases, and very few sulfites are used.
This vintage was of excellent quality, with weather conditions being ideal – warm and sunny from April with just the right amount of rainfall. Grapes remained healthy, resulting in smaller than usual crops that were handpicked in the early morning hours and whole bunch pressed. The grape varietals were vinified separately in order to optimize the blending process. A two-week post-fermentary maceration was undertaken to extract fruity aromas and a light structure for seamless drinkability. Each varietal was aged separately in stainless steel vats for 13+ months prior to blending and bottling.
