Barolos hailing from Bussia boast a rich fruit flavor and deep color. Although they have the classic tannic structure of Nebbiolo from this region, they are not as harsh as those from the southside of Monforte or Serralunga. Despite this, the Fantino Baroli still age well and are pleasantly approachable at a relatively young age. Thanks to the meticulous care provided by Alessandro and Gian Natale, the Fantinos have access to some of the oldest vines in the entire Barolo region. Planted in 1946 and 1947, these vines are pruned in an old-fashioned and labor-intensive style, yielding grapes that would make any Barolista envious.
Just bottled, the 2015 Barolo Riserva Cascina Dardi is a real powerhouse. This full-bodied, potent Barolo packs a huge pinch. Time in the glass brings out aromatic intensity and inner perfume. Spice and blood orange accents lend an exotic quality to this darl, layered Barolo.
