It opens with an earthy blend of crushed rocks, sweet herbs, violets and white pepper. Soft and supple, without a hard edge in sight, this soothes the palate with its ripe red berry fruits and juicy acidity. Dusty tannins mingle with citrus, creating a display of contrasts as it finishes full of tension. Lavander hints linger.

The old and cavernous cellar from Amorotti is across the street from one of the great greats of Abruzzo, Valentini. The Amorotti wines are fermented with ambient yeasts and this Montepulciano was kept for nearly 2 years in large, 50 hectoliter Slavonian oak casks which were not toasted.
