Kathleen Inman is a 4th generation Californian born in Napa to a family of prune farmers. Her true passion is wine and like many of her peers, Kathleen worked in other industries before making her way back. In 1998 Kathleen and her husband Simon moved their family from England to California so that Kathleen could pursue her dream of becoming a winemaker. They bought a small farm in the Russian River Valley and named their estate vineyard Olivet Grange ‒ which is planted on gravel with loamy topsoils ‒ after their country home in England. In 2000, they planted a little over seven acres of Pinot Noir (Dijon clones) and Pinot Gris on the 10.45-acre property. Kathleen’s first release was Pinot Gris in 2002, Pinot Noir in 2003 and in 2010, completed construction on a new winery. Kathleen is committed to employing environmentally responsible, sustainable farming practices and employs natural winemaking techniques. Olivet Grange is farmed organically and she has dropped vineyards that do not. Kathleen relies solely on native yeasts and uses very little sulfur just about 40 ppm ‒ and only at bottling. The wine labels are eco-friendly, the closures are Stelvin and most of her compost comes from her accounts ‒ high-end restaurants like the Slanted Door, Aqua, Boulevard, The Fairmount, Lulu and Tadich Grill. Kathleen uses the compost as mulch under her vine rows to retard weed growth and also to impart nitrogen and beneficial bacteria to the soil. The winery is made almost entirely from recycled materials and is solely powered by solar energy. Kathleen sources additional fruit from the sustainably farmed Thorn Ridge Ranch. Kathleen’s handcrafted, small lot wines begin in the vineyard. When she thinks that the grapes are about ripe, she wanders about the vineyard, picking grapes at random. The moment the skin removes easily from the grape, she immediately harvests, typically, that’s about 10 days earlier than her peers. Her first year, Kathleen produced 70 cases of wine. Today, she produces approximately 187 cases of Pinot Gris, 337 cases of Chardonnay, 1840 cases of Pinot Noir and plans to keep production small so that she can continue to make wines in her trademark, restrained, feminine style. “We endeavor to grow our grapes and to make our wines as naturally as possible, with as little human intervention as possible, to ensure they embody not only the pure personality of the grapes from which they’re made, but also the singular character of the place where they’re born while at the same time making the smallest impact possible on the land, water and air around us.” Kathleen Inman
Tasting notes
Aromas of rose petal, cherry, raspberry, beeswax, ginger, clove and star anise meet flavors of sweet, ripe cherry, dried cranberry, rhubarb and raspberry. An elegant, well-balanced Pinot Noir edged with graphite and hints of earth on the finish.

Technical notes
Clones 114, 115, 667, 777 and 828 were picked on four different passes, whole cluster pressed (20%) and cold soaked for four days. During fermentation, the wine was punched down three times per day and at the end of fermentation, the wines were pressed and settled overnight before being moved to French oak barrels (primarily Sirugue and Remond). Aged for 19 months, the wines was kept sur lie, stirred regularly and settled right before bottling.
