 Wine Spectator 87 points (Jun 15 2013)
Complete for a 2011, this firm version offers taut, vivid raspberry, spice and fresh-turned earth, ending with spicy, gripping tannins. Should benefit from some time in the cellar. Drink now through 2018. 388 cases made.-JL
 Vinous 89 points (May 2014)
(50% new oak): Bright ruby. Oak-spiced dark berries and cherry skin on the pungent nose, along with subtle smoke and cola nuances. Enters smooth and broad, then tightens up in the mid-palate to offer lively black raspberry and bitter cherry flavors. The persistent finish repeats the cola note and features dusty tannins, gentle sweetness and a touch of florality. In a weighty style for a 2011, but not lacking for verve. (JR)
Wine Advocate 91 points (Dec 2013)
The 2011 Pinot Noir The Flyer is made from the old Joseph Swan clone, Mt. Eden clone, Calera clone, and the Dijon 777 clone from Burgundy. It exhibits the darkest ruby color of all these Pinot Noirs, the sweetest fruit, and lots of raspberry, earth, cherry and forest floor characteristics. It should age for at least 4-5 years given its intensity.
There’s a lot of zippy acidity and even some firm tannins in this vibrant young Pinot. The cherries, pomegranates and cola punch right through, like a fist through paper. Its wonderfully dry and light in texture, with balanced alcohol. While it shows plenty of new oak, the wood doesn’t dominate, as it did in 2010. Nice now, and it should age for eight or so years.
