Review
La Cucina Italiana October 2010 Montepirolo 2004 - La Cucina Italiana ------------------------------------------ This delicious and thoroughly modern blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Cabernet Franc possesses all the calling cards of great Bordeaux, a la tobacco and cocoa flavors, plus violets, menthol and sweet spices from the local terroir. ------------------------------------------ eRobertParker.com June 2010 92 Points Montepirolo 2006 - 92 Points, eRobertParker.com ------------------------------------------ ... Dark plums, blackberries, mint, violets, sage, herbs and spices spin out from a massive, powerful frame. The wine reveals superb length, a polished close and remarkable overall balance... San Patrignano is a community built with a mission to help young people recovering from alcohol and drug dependencies return to productive lives.... Beginning in 2009 the approach for the top wines is much more based on a non-interventionalist approach to the vineyards and cellar. San Patrignano has enlisted the services of no less than Gianfranco Soldera to lend a hand, so needless to say it will be fascinating to see what develops here. ------------------------------------------ Gambero Rosso Guide to Italian Wines 2010 Montepirolo 2006 - Tre Bicchieri, Gambero Rosso Guide to Italian Wines ------------------------------------------ ... The exciting Montepirolo '06, from cabernet sauvignon, merlot and cabernet franc, is spicy, deep and ever-changing. The palate puts elegance before volume and brims with flavour from start to finish. It's a great, perfectly made wine. ------------------------------------------ eRobertParker.com April 2009 90 Points ------------------------------------------ The 2005 Colli di Rimini Montepirolo (Cabernet) offers up violets, sweet spices, menthol, sweet herbs and black cherries in a vibrant, fresh style. The wine shows lovely clarity and precision, not to mention commendable overall balance. This is a terrific effort from San Patrignano. ------------------------------------------ Guide to Italian Wines Spring 2008 5 Stars - Outstanding A Unique Wine Project ------------------------------------------ A blend of 60% Cabernet Sauvignon, 30% Merlot and 10% Cabernet Franc. Deep ruby red-light purple with aromas of black cherry, black plum, myrtle and black pepper. Medium-full with excellent concentration. Big mid-palate with layers of fruit. Rich finish with excellent persistence. Young, but balanced tannins and balanced acidity. Best in 10-12 years. Very impressive! ------------------------------------------ Wine Advocate February 29, 2008 91 Points ------------------------------------------ San Patrignano is a fascinating property. The estate was founded by the Muccioli family in the late 1970's as a rehabilitation center for young people with drug and alcohol dependencies. San Patrignano makes a wide variety of agricultural products as part of its programs to offer profession training designed to help those in need re-enter society in a more productive and healthy state. The wines, made with the assistance of oenologist Riccardo Cotarella, are often outstanding. The estate's 2004 Montepirolo is a blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Cabernet Franc. It is a gorgeous wine endowed with layers of ripe dark Cabernet fruit, tobacco, herbs, graphite and minerals. This fresh, vibrant red offers outstanding depth on the palate with a long, fresh finish. It is a commendable effort from San Patrignano. ------------------------------------------ Gambero Rosso Guide to Italian Wines 2008 ------------------------------------------ Gambero Rosso presents the English and German version of Vini d'Italia 2008, the best-seller book about Italian wines that has become a mainstay for both professionals and wine-lovers. A unique opportunity to get know and to taste a wide selection of the best Italian wines. ------------------------------------------ Wine Enthusiast February 2007 90 Points ------------------------------------------ San Patrignano is among Romagna's best and most respected producers and offers Bordeaux-inspired wines like this succulent Cabernet (with smaller percentages of Merlot and Cabernet Franc). The nose is rich with leather, vanilla, moist earth, coffee and licorice but there's enough ripe black red fruit to keep it fresh and lively. A beautiful Cabernet from a hot vintage and enologist Riccardo Cotarella. ------------------------------------------ i-winereview.com December 2006 ------------------------------------------ The 2003 Montepirolo is a delicious blend of 60 percent Cabernet, 30 percent Merlot and 10 percent Cabernet Franc. It is garnet in color and offers aromas of cassis, plum, and smoked meat. On the palate it is rich and complex with terrific mouth feel, gripping tannins and a long finish. Not to be missed. ------------------------------------------ Wine Advocate April 2006 93 Points ------------------------------------------ The 2001 Montepirolo is no less exceptional [than the 2001 Avi]...very ample in its expression of blackberry fruit, mint and sage, minerals and cedar, the density of the flavors, the firmness of the texture, the important solidity of the tannins all testify to a very important extraction and concentration that will guarantee 20 years of life but require a bit of bottle time to unwind. ------------------------------------------ Wine Enthusiast February 2006 90 Points ------------------------------------------ San Patrignano is among Romagna's best and most respected producers and offers Bordeaux-inspired wines like this succulent Cabernet (with smaller percentages of Merlot and Cabernet Franc). Lasting on the finish and saturated. ------------------------------------------ Italian Cooking & Living March 2005 Cellar Selections ------------------------------------------ Medium-bodied, concentrated red, some wood. Food pairing: grilled chicken, pasta in spicy tomato sauce, small game birds, grilled veal and mushroom dishes. This blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Cabernet Franc comes from a winery that provides support to those recovering from drug addiction. Try it alongside roasted game. ------------------------------------------ Wine Spectator November 30, 2004 88 Points New Releases: Italy ------------------------------------------ Lots of ripe fruit with coffee and toasted oak character. Medium-bodied, with fine tannins and a medium finish. ------------------------------------------ Wine News October/November 2004 90 Points Buyline ------------------------------------------ Inky hue, black to the rim. Pungent, mushroom-like scents mingle with cedar, clove and pencil notes. Oak-driven flavors of strawberry with a medicinal, clove-like accent. Tannic finish with a lingering toasted oak nuance. ------------------------------------------ Gambero Rosso Guide to Italian Wines October 23, 2004 2005 Tre Bicchieri ("Three Glasses") Selections Include Ten Top Wines from Palm Bay Imports ------------------------------------------
