As one of the oldest port houses, Quinta do Noval is unique in
that most of the ports are made from estate-grown fruit and,
notably, all of the vintage Noval wines are from the single
Quinta do Noval vineyard. As Robert Parker writes in his 2005
book, The World's Greatest Wine Estates: "Quinta do Noval is
unusual among the great traditional Port houses in that it
emphasizes the importance of the vineyard. The aim is to
produce classic Vintage Ports that are harmonious and elegant
expressions of Quinta do Noval's terroir. Strict selection in the
vineyard, low yields, and strict selection again in the tasting
room result in a small production.”
| Tasting notes |
| The impressive non-vintage Late Bottled (vintage character) port, which is sweeter than the N.V. Old Coronation, possesses fabulous fruit, and that wonderful spice and smoky chocolate character found in quality port. Dense, rich, and showy, this is excellent value in high quality port. Superdark and powerful. Shows raisin, spice, coffee and violet aromas. Full-bodied, very chewy, with lots of grip and loads of fruit. Very long in the mouth. Outstanding young Port. Supervalue here from a blend of TINTA RORIZ, TOURIGA FRANCESCA and TOURIGA NACIONAL |
| Technical notes |
| This single vineyard blend of Tinta Roriz, Touriga Francesca and Touriga Nacional is produced in limited
quantities and only in vintage years. The fruit is crushed by foot, fermented in custom made lagares at
Quinta do Noval and aged for 4 ½ years in old wooden vats. |
