Despite a laid-back atmosphere that is often considered utopian, California claims 90% of wine production in the U.S. and continues to reflect a state immersed in tradition and transition. Although Cabernet still dominates the spectrum, “Rhone-Rangers,” as some vintners are labeled, continue to churn-out popular derivatives of French classics. Also, the “Cal-Ital” perspectives of some winemakers prove there is always going to be a complex and thriving market in North America.
